Pointers On How To Lower The Cost Of PCB Prototype Building

I will give some advice about eliminating expensive mistakes whilst running sample product and PCB manufacturing and how to decrease time to market for new electronic products.

Once you have completed your product and PCB design, you want to get started building samples before you commit to large production volume. Many design software packages including PCB layout design software and industrial design software have simulation capabilities built in. Doing a simulation permits reducing the number of design errors before the initial prototype is assembled.

Selecting a modular design in which each module consists of certain core functions will simplify the optimization of your prototype by permitting you to replace individual modules which do not meet your performance versus rebuilding the complete design. Swapping a single module will be relatively cost effective. In addition, performance classification of modules will be quicker than characterizing the whole design.

As a result of the setup cost, PCB parts are often assembled manually during the prototyping phase. Yet, this approach is rather time consuming. One more concern is the lower reliability and quality of manually mounted boards. Thus it makes sense taking into consideration a contract supplier for the assembly.

When running small-quantity production runs, the production setup expense will typically dominate the overall prototype build expense. When looking for a subcontractor, it is best to select a supplier which specializes in prototype builds to reduce the cost. Prototype PCB vendors generally combine the circuit boards of a number of customers which effectively shares the setup cost amongst several customers. The drawback is that you will normally only be able to choose amongst several normal PCB material thicknesses and sizes.

In addition to selecting a manufacturer with small setup costs, choosing a company that is going to also be able to cope with your full-volume assembly runs reduces errors since switching manufacturers has the possibility of mistakes because of a specific vendor decoding production design files differently. This way your design is already translated into the exact machine files which means small or no setup cost for your finished assembly.

Some PCB vendors also offer PCB design services which is a great plus in case you don’t have experience with the design. In addition, these suppliers will be able to help you in case there are problems with your design data and be able to discover problems before the assembly.

Sourcing components for prototype runs is a difficulty. Buying components in small volume is expensive and involves a lot of work. In addition, a few suppliers have minimum order quantity constraints. Small quantities of SMT parts are hard to mount by automatic equipment because they ordinarily do not come in reels. If you pick a supplier that has inventory of normally used SMT parts which you can buy, you can save a lot of time. In addition, you won't waste any parts which are left over.

If you picked a supplier that also does the finished product assembly, you will not only save time to market but also make sure that circuit boards that are found to be faulty during the final examination can be repaired much more quickly. Lastly, make certain that you are able to without difficulty communicate with your vendor. This will help avoid costly errors and shorten manufacturing preparation times throughout all steps of PCB manufacture, PCB assembly and final product manufacturing.

I need to know about a job that I have an interview?

I have an interview next week for an "Assembler/ Wire bonder" position I would like to know everything about this job, like lingo and exactly how it is done. I am a little familiar but I need this job and need to sound smart. Here is the ad. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Production Assembler in which their main responsibility will be to operate Automatic Pick & Place, Automatic Wire Bonders and possibly Semi Automatic Wedge. These are the main processes they will be hired for but they could be crossed trained in any other area of assembly if needed. Individuals having experience in one of the following Hi Tech Microelectronics disciplines listed below should apply. We would also be interested in individuals having experience in one of these other disciplines such as PCB board assembly, soldering, fiber optic and surface mount. A minimum of 1 to 2 years experience is preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent.

I once heard a headhunter say that if an applicant had 50% of what the employer was asking for, he would send him on the interviw.

Loss leader alert: $79 Amazon Kindle costs $84 to build (Venturebeat?format=xml)

Amazon's new jaw-droppingly priced $79 Kindle actually costs $84.25 to
manufacture, yet another sign that Amazon cares more about profiting on
content rather than hardware.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has made the bet that getting low-cost hardware into
