I am often asked what I do for a living. Well I could say I write software or I am the Director of TCS Software. What always follows is, "What kind of software do you write?" The answer: We write data base software for Churches. It usually gets a nod or two. Not that most people understand what that means, at least to me. After a recent visit to a mega church, I am convinced that most software companies who write church data base software do not get it either.

I AM STEAMING!

I spent an afternoon with a Church recently who are desperately trying to replace a big name church data base system they have probably spent $50 - 60 thousand dollars with over the last 10 years. The software is hard to use, clunky, DOS like, and just not written from a ministry perspective. And the Church wants a change. I thought, "Why aren’t you yelling at the CEO of this other company?"

I realized it would make no difference because so many software companies writing software today are too large, too dependent on clunky systems that isolate developers from the real world, and have probably lost sight of what they do for churches. The software they produce is not their spiritual act of worship. It is their job. Paul wrote..

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Rom 12:1
