Buying A Bbq | Charcoal Vs Gas Barbecues Buy A Bbq
Garden Eco Article on BBQ Buying
Charcoal vs Gas Barbecues
When you're set for a garden party and you fire up the barbecue, which should you choose – a gas barbecue or the more traditional charcoal barbie? We weigh up the pros and cons of both:
Buying a Gas BBQ is easy at GardenEco, stainless steel, trolley, charcoal, gas O Grills and many others.
Charcoal barbecues: The pros
- Food absorbs that natural, smoky flavour
- Charcoal barbecues are generally cheaper than gas models
- Zero carbon footprint: as long as you use local, eco-friendly charcoal, the barbie simply produces as much C02 as the tree absorbed while it was alive
Charcoal barbecues: The cons
-
- Charcoal barbies are slow: it can take up to 40 minutes to get a barbie ready for cooking, although quick-fire charcoal is available
- You need to cook when the coals are at their hottest so timing is vital; not helpful if you have a steady stream of people arriving throughout the day
- It's hard to control the heat of a charcoal barbecue, apart from raising and lowering the height of the grill
- Charcoal barbecues can be quite messy to clean
Gas barbecues: The Pros
- Gas barbecues are quicker to set up than charcoal barbecues. They benefit from being turned on about 10 minutes before cooking time
- The heat on a gas bbq is controllable
- Gas barbecues are quite easy to clean
Gas barbecues: The cons
- Gas barbecues are usually more expensive to buy than charcoal ones
- The initial cost of a gas cylinder (around £15-25) is pricey
So which should you choose – a gas or charcoal barbecue? Much of it will be down to personal preference, as some people swear a charcoal barbie gives food a better flavour, while others claim they can't taste the difference. Much of it will boil down to the way you cook. If you like to come home from work, throw a couple of steaks on the barbie and enjoy a glass of wine in the garden, a gas barbecue will be far more convenient for you. If, however, you're a weekend outdoor chef, who likes to take their time, and enjoy the whole barbecue ritual, the charcoal barbecue will be the one for you.

5 Tips for Barbequeing Safely
Years ago it used to be that barbequeing was a summer only thing.Which made sense because grilling was done on charcoal and it took 30 minutes or better for the coals to "gray out". and then you need to add another 15 to 20 minutes for cooking the meat.
Now a days with the modern gas grill, a grill can be at perfect grilling temperature in just minutes basically cutting the prep time in half. But along with all this speed and convenience has come a longer season for grilling that even includes winter. Considering how much more everyone is barbequing their favorite meats and vegetables, safety of food preparation has become more important.
So Here are Some Important Safety Tips for Barbequing.
Firstly, make sure you carefully inspect the expiration dates on any meats purchased. I kid you not, supermarket managers do make mistakes and old meat often winds up going home with some unlucky family. Let it not be your friends and family. Really folks, it only take a second or two so make the effort.
Secondly, when marinating make sure to marinate in the refrigerator. Don't put your meat in the marinate and leave it out on the counter. Bacteria multiply rapidly. So be safe and marinate in the refrigerator especially if you're doing an overnight marinate.
Thirdly, separate "juicy" meats like chicken and poultry from vegetable and other barbeque foods you buy. Separate them with plastic bags. Chicken is particularly a "dirty" meat. Juice in packaged chicken will very quickly cross contaminate other foods in your grocery bag.
And lastly never ever let your meat especially poultry come up to room temperature. Take them out of the refrigerator and throw them directly on the grill. And never let meats, especially poultry sit in the sun while you prep other stuff for your barbeque. Again, baceria multiple with blinding speed in favorable condiions: read warm temperatures.
Following these simple tips will ensure that you have delicious but more importantly safe barbeque.
My hot water heater pilot light will not stay lit, do I need to replace the thermocouple of gas control valve?
I have to manually light my pilot light with a lighter and the heater only runs for 5 - 10 minutes and then shuts off, but that is not enough time to heat 40 gallons of cold water.
I would try the thermocouple first (rather cheap to replace). However If the heater is shutting off after five or ten minutes likely your gas valve/probe assembly will need to be replaced. Water tanks genrally last about 10 to 15 years, if yours is getting up to that age I recommend replacing it.
