Finding the Best Air Conditioning For Your Needs
What kind of air conditioning unit best suits your needs? There are several different ways to deliver cool air to the interior of your home, which will vary widely in price. Following is a guide to the three basic types of residential air conditioning units and some advice to help you make a decision.
Window air conditioners are a favorite means of keep the home cool. They can fit into most standard windows. They come with accordion-like panels that help them fit your window securely. Some styles are made to work with slider windows as well. These models are the least expensive, and are also suitable for just about any wall layout or window.
Another type of air conditioning unit is the kind that fits through the wall, necessitating that a hole be cut. It's critical that the hole be cut precisely in order to fit snugly against the air conditioning unit. The advantage of this model is that it doesn't take up precious window space. It also permits an airtight, secure fit. Most window air conditioning units can actually be treated as through-the-wall units. They do require a supporting frame on the outside, though.
Portable air conditioners are freestanding units. These are the most recent air conditioning innovation, with everything you need in one compact package. Some models are basically stationary, but many have wheels on the base so they can be easily moved to another room if required. These units are great for areas of the home that aren't in use all the time. However, this style is the most expensive of the various options.
So what kind should you get? Here are some things to keep in mind in order to help you make the right decision for your needs and your budget.
Sturdiness:Will the air conditioning unit be getting a lot of use, essentially running day and night? Inspect the base, frame and cover to make sure that it's made from high quality materials.
Location: Will the unit be used in a bedroom? Or is it intended to cool down the living room? The cooling capability of the unit will be affected by the location it's in. You need to purchase a unit that has the capability to cool down the necessary square footage. As well, if it's a very sunny room, you'll probably need a more powerful air conditioner.
Learning curve: Don't get a unit that's so complicated that you spend most of the summer figuring out the controls. When it's essential that the air conditioner be running, you don't have any time to waste in learning how the settings work.
When you turn the air conditioning on in your home?
Should there be a small amount of water coming from the base of the unit inside the house? I can't figure out if it's the air conditioning unit or a leaking water heater?
No there should not...most likely the drain is stopped up and will need cleaning...this very easy and you can do it yourself ....just remove front cover of unit drain line should be visible along with two copper a/c lines...remove drain line ..flush with water hose ...run some bleach down it and reassemble....this should solve your problem...
Your feedback = changes at Taft (cincinnati)
Fans of the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops who attended the grand reopening of
the Taft Theatre on Sept. 12 were asked to fill out surveys about their
experience. Because of your suggestions, the orchestra is making several
changes and additions. Perhaps most notable for the orchestra, which will play
there during the 2013-14 season while [...]
