Style Is All About The Accessories

Any respected interior designer will often utter the words "it's all in the details". The meaning behind this is that even if you have great light and space in your home, and maybe have some grand pieces of furniture to go in it, you won't ever be able to achieve a great style if you don't have the correct accessories and don't make sure the finish is to a high standard.Lets take a look at three easy ways to ensure your accessories don't let your design down.

One Colour Rule. Not many people can mix and match colours that well, so if its often best to keep to one. They don’t all have to be exactly the same tone, but it helps if they are all within a close range of a colour. For example, you might have some red pillows, with a red-pink clock on the wall and a ruby coloured candle stick set. If you stick to using the same colour, there will be a nice flow throughout the room and you wont have any unsightly clashing.

Buy Quality. It is always much better to buy a few quality items to accessories your room, rather than try and get lots of cheaper bits. This does not been to say that all your accessories need to be expensive, but the items that stand out and that people interact with benefit from a bit of quality. Tableware for example is a key item to get right, as they are not only often closely inspected, but people actually use the items in everyday life.

Use Functional Items.As previous mentioned, getting feature or functional items correct is not the easiest thing to do. However, they also have the biggest impact on the design and feel of a room. Try to pick items that fit your personality. If, for example, you have never left the city you live in, don't expect a mounted deer head on your wall to fit in with your style. However if you are a big whisky or wine drinker, having the right glassware on show looks good. You might have ISO wine glasses on show or some decanters, it really doesn’t matter as long as it represents you well.

How do I hardwire my car stereo so that it runs in accessory mode?

OK, I have a 76 Ford Ltd, and I installed a CDE-9846 along with my component speakers and my subs and amp. Everything works fine, except that my head unit will not respond in accessory mode, and it clears my station preset and memory everytime i turn off the car. Please Help

It sounds like either the constant and accessory power wires are reversed, or both are connected to a key-switched wire. The yellow wire from the head unit needs to be connected to constant power. There probably was no constant power connection in the factory harness, so the easiest thing to do might be to tap it into the cigarette lighter harness; that should be a constant power connection.

If the deck won't come on in the "accessory" key position, then most likely the red wire is connected to an ignition wire from the key switch (or possibly the key switch itself has a problem). Your vehicle's fuse box may have an accessory-switched terminal that you can connect the red wire to; otherwise you might test the wiring at the key switch until you find the accessory output, and tap that wire. Be sure to fuse the new wire.
